HW Communications (HW) was founded in 1990 by Prof. Mike Darnell and Prof. Bahram Honary and has traditionally focussed on advanced research and development in mobile and wireless communications which have been implemented as bespoke solutions for external companies. More recently HW has also targeted the transfer of the technologies developed in the research laboratory into its own range of products for the marketplace. This is where HW sees its future, and a strong emphasis is being placed on working with application providers to ensure all research activities are focussed at market opportunities. HW’s competence lies in its technical ability for both software and hardware development; with HW’s strong academic capability and united work ethic, the company can tackle an unusually wide range of technical problems.

HW Communications partners closely with Lancaster University. Through this close liaison, InoTek Ltd was formed in 2005 to join forces in the commercialisation of Intellectual Property outputs of two major EC FP5 projects related to reconfigurable processing and Software Defined Radio.

InoTek Ltd. is a subsidiary of HW Communications, an advanced technology developer specialising in transferring advanced technical concepts and technologies from the research laboratory to the market place. InoTek Ltd brings together an accumulation of over 20 years of academic and commercial experience in Reconfigurable Digital Signal Processing for Communication Systems. InoTek seeks to bring an increasingly active research topic towards commercial availability. InoTek continues to develop new techniques, protocols and algorithms for use in Software Defined Radio with a distinct focus on Real Time Reconfigurable Radio solutions.

Activity ranges from parameter-able algorithms, such as scalable to LDPC codec’s, to Real Time Reconfigurable Control which brings real time benefits of InoTek’s ‘Fizzware’ system with the industry standard Software Control Architecture (SCA).
